About Me

Cannylad playing Robert Johnson Blues

Playing and Singing The Blues at the
Whitburn Association for the
Mayor of South Tynesides
Charity Event
November 2007

What's the "Cannylad" all about? Well I run a small printing Business as a self employed Printer/Web Designer and I used to have a web site called Cannylad.com and the name stuck to all or most of my customers. What is a "Cannylad" It's a Geordie (or North East of England) name for someone who is OK, does a good job, respectful, etc etc it is not derogatory...I hope not anyway (:-))

That's me on the right> playing Robert Johnson stuff on a camp site in the Forest of Dean whilst on a stop over on our Holidays this year. You can tell by the water mark, half way up my pants that it was raining cats and dogs. I am sitting under the campervan awning. Trying to cheer everyone up..........

I am 55 years old and hate getting up on stage. Although on stage most of my life either playing or DJ'ing I always get very nervous. There is a quote by Scott Ainslie. I read on his web site or somewhere one time
"Isn't it funny how someone who is completely comfortable in front of a bunch of barely socialised kids can freeze up when confronted with a group of reasonable well-behaved adults.

At times like this, it is useful to reflect on the fact that we spend an inordinate amount of time showing our children and students how to work, and a minuscule amount of time showing them how to play

If you are afraid of being a fool in public - you will never have much fun on stage"

But it never works for me.
I always get the jitters.

I am married (a lot) with 4 great kids and 1 grandson.

I love the blues.

I detest people who say "That's not the correct words to that song" to me that's a Karaoke Singer and not a blues singer and people who say "That's not the way that song should be played on Guitar". That's someone who can't find his own heart to play from and a sad person they must be.
